CDV - Captain Nicolas J. Sappington, Commissary Service Artillery Res. An original, used carte de visite, in sleeve, matted, and labeled. Tinted upper-bust portrait, Photographed by P.L. Perkins, Baltimore, marked on reverse. A Marylander, Captain, and Brevet Major of U.S. Volunteers Commissary of Subsistence Department. Entered U.S. service in September of 1861, and mustered out in 1866. Sappington also commanded Elmira POW Camp from 1864-65. VG-Fine condition, with light wear, foxing, yellowing.
