The former owner of this knife claimed that this was found in a ice cellar in South Carolina back in the 1970's and has been professionally restored. We have no idea if this story war true or if this was a Union or became a Confederate owned weapon or when the alterations to the artillery blade took place. We bought it for display in our Museum because of the great look of the piece and are selling this as a mystery piece because we cant attest to it's specific history. We can tell you that the blade does shows signs of period metal work such as filing and it does have a somewhat sharp old edge. The patina is nice but could have been forced. From what we know from the former owner is that light rust was removed from the blade and that was it. We honestly cant prove the information that had been given to us at the time, that this Knife was in Confederate hands at the time in was hidden by the end of the war and that everything appears original except the cleaning restoration work. Size: 18.0 inches length, Blade: 12.0 inches long by 1.90 inches wide. Hilt: 6.0 inches long by 4.0 inches wide. Markings: Faint sings of old maker marks still present.(Note images) Condition: Good, blade somewhat over cleaned. *Please Note! Do to the fact we have absolutely nothing else to compare this "One of a kind" Bowie knife to and we cant prove that this was modified in the 1860's or the 1960'S, we are selling this just as a Very Beautiful Modified U.S. Artillery Sword Bowie Knife - Sold As Is!!
