THE BATTLE OF CEDAR MOUNTAIN, VIRGINIA ~ FROM THE WILLIAM 'BILL' A. REGER COLLECTION ~ Found in September 1974 ~ A very nice Civil War relic condition fired lead artillery case shot slug with the tell-tale features of a case shot slug (flat impressions on multiple sides). This relic was found by William 'Bill' A. Reger, one of the great early relic hunters, in September of 1974, on the Cedar Mountain Battlefield in Virginia . This relic was in a large Berks County, Pennsylvania collection of carefully identified relics that were recovered in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Reger passed away in Reading Pennsylvania, in 2011. He included his own type-writer typed tags with the relic groupings. In this case, the tag is not included, as it was the only tag for the entire group, however, a copy of the tag, as well as a provenance letter, will be included. 'Cedar Mountain, which was fought on August 9, 1862 during the Second Manassas Campaign was a fierce fight involving Stonewall Jackson's Corps. The total numbers involved were relatively small (8000 Union soldiers and almost 17,000 Confederate soldiers), but casualties were comparatively high (3,700 combined).' We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered. We will not buy or sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally. Thank you for viewing!
