Description

This rare Cavalry sabre converted from an Artillery Sabre was made in New Orleans by Thomas Griswold and CO. for Hayden and Whilden and came out of a closed United Daughters of Confederacy in Charleston SC. It was sold at Poulin Auctions and properly restored. It's a rare sabre converted from an artillery sabre and the providence is as good as it gets. The blade has excellent markings and blade itself is in good condition without any major pitting. The hilt is one I have never seen and the two branches have been restored. The original brass scabbard is good with dents and a major one that has partially cracked the scabbard at bottom as seen in the photos. Hayden and whilden received many of their swords from Thomas Griswold in New Orleans. Guaranteed original forever. The leather grip can be darkened if you want to. Sold at Poulin Auction May 23, 2021 Lot #3084
