George H. Harris, 6th Michigan Inf. And Heavy Artillery and 73rd USCT signed in ink Signed CDV George H. Harris, from Allegan, Michigan, who served in the 6th Michigan infantry that converted to the 6th Michigan Heavy Artillery from Aug 1861 to Dec. 1863 that fought at Baton Rouge and Port Hudson. Then commissioned in the 73rd USCT and served until Oct. 1865. Signed in ink on the back. The 1st Louisiana Native Guards are somewhat famous for initially serving in the Confederate army, then switching to the Union army after the fall of New Orleans. Their most noted action was at the seige of Port Hudson. Harris died in 1910. No backmark, but there is a revenue stamp. Condition as seen.
