THE BATTLE OF MALVERN HILL, VIRGINIA / THE SEVEN DAYS BATTLES - RECOVERED ON March 28, 1964 FROM THE AREA OF WILLIAM MAGRUDER'S CONFEDERATE DIVISION AND BELIEVED BY REGER TO HAVE BEEN FIRED BY MORELL'S BRIGADE OF PORTER'S DIVISION OF THE UNION FIFTH CORPS (Reger mistook this for the Third Corps, which was actually on the other side of the field) - FROM THE WILLIAM A. REGER COLLECTION (He passed away in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2011) - A Relic condition Musket Ball or Artillery Case Shot ball (probably case shot judging by the line across the ball, and it registers at about .65 caliber on our calipers) Please note that the circled area on the maps is based on the description on the tag that Reger gave, suggesting the Union left flank on the western end of the battlefield This artifact was recovered from the Malvern Hill, Virginia Battlefield on March 28, 1964 by William Reger. Specifically, this relic was recovered from the area of William Magruder's Confederate Division and was believed by the digger, to have been fired by MORELL'S BRIGADE OF PORTER'S DIVISION OF THE UNION THIRD CORPS The label that was with the relic group that this artifact was a part of, indicated that they were found on October 10th, 1970. This came from a large, identified, Berks County Pennsylvania collection of relics that were recovered in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and which had meticulous documentation in the form of typed labels. A copy of this copied tag, as well as a provenance letter will be included. We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Some land on Battlefields that are now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, were acquired after the items were recovered. We will not sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally Thank you for viewing!
