Description

Very rare and wonderful, 1860’s Pair of Original, Civil War Officer's Shoulder Boards / Shoulder Straps being a matched pair of Artillery Captains Shoulder Strap Insignia. The Shoulder Boards offered here each measure 4” by 1 5/8” and are trimmed with an original, black felt border (overall size of Boards plus trim is 4 ½” by 2”). Each of the Shoulder Boards feature a single border of embroidered bullion with a thin boarder on the outer and inner edges as well as a thin border on each edge of the four captain's bars. The embroidered bullion border is approx. 1/4” wide. The field is red colored woven fabric and backing is a gray colored, muslin like material lining with the thread of the embroidered bullion visible. As stated above, each Shoulder Strap is trimmed with a border of black felt that was likely added by the original wearer. This Pair of Artillery Officer's Shoulder Boards / Straps is unconditionally guaranteed to be original and of the period 1861 to 1865. It is backed by our “no questions asked” return policy and lifetime guarantee of authenticity. The Shoulder Boards are unconditionally guaranteed to be deemed authentic by any third party authentication service and will be accompanied by our own Letter of Authenticity with a statement of our unconditional return policy and guarantee of authenticity. This Pair of Civil War period, Artillery Captain’s Shoulder Boards is in very good condition. There is some age tarnish to the embroidered, gold bullion thread and a bit of verdigris. The bullion thread is well preserved with no significant loss or damage although there is a small spot of the thin outer border of one of the Insignia that is slightly detached. The felt field is very attractive – the color is still strong though a bit faded and each Strap has a spot of lighter fading that appears to be the result of moisture. There is no moth damage and the back of the Strap is well preserved as can be seen in the scans below. Overall this original Pair of Civil War Artillery Captain’s Shoulder Boards is very well preserved and displays nicely. A very rare and guaranteed original, 1860’s Pair of Civil War Union Artillery Captain’s Shoulder Boards / Straps / Insignia and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
