Signed CDV - Lieut. Sylvester W. Marshall, 3rd Pa. Artillery - w/Revenue Stamp An original, Civil War era carte de visite. Signed on the back, “ Compliments of / S.W. Marshall / 3rd Pa. Arty. ” Photographed by C.W. Van Ness, Baltimore, stamped on reverse. Has a 2- cent George Washington stamp on reverse, photographer-initial cancelled. Sylvestor W. Marshall enlisted as a sergeant into Co. D. 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (Robert’s Independent Artillery) on Nov. 9, 1862. He was promoted to ranks of 2nd and 1st lieutenant by the end of the war. Size is approx. 2-3/8" by 4" Fine condition. View all photos for condition and detail.
