Description
This is an exceedingly rare original Artillery insignia for the Model 1858 Forage Caps used throughout the Civil War. This example is made from thick bullion thread sewn on to a velvet oval background, with a jaceron wire border. The back is starched linen, and still retains both original attaching wires. Condition is very good, with only some minor loss to the velvet along the upper edge (please see photos). Two inches wide, and 1½ inches tall. Worn by both regular Army and Militia artillery officers. Comes in the display case shown in the photo.
